Why Mexico? Meghan's Story

As many of you know, I’m a traveler by nature, so I was immediately drawn to someplace foreign for our wedding. Mexico has so much of what I love – authentic culture, nice people, delicious food, fun libations, hot weather, and tropical views.

But why did we choose Mexico for our wedding? The first international trip John and I took together was to Mexico. For me, I knew traveling together would be important – we both like to travel and had discussed a future together filled with exotic destinations. For me this trip was more than a vacation, it was an experiment of our traveling chemistry.

We left that trip enamored with each other. We loved the relaxed atmosphere, the misadventures, and the fun stories we came home with. We’ve been to many countries in the 2.5 years since then, but our memories of Mexico always puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart.


Why Mexico? John's Story

In a word, Guacamole.

But as Meghan and I have discovered, there is much more to this wonderful country than a delicious avocado puree. It's a place where you take off your watch and turn off your phone; you listen to the waves crash on the shore, see the sun set over the Pacific, and feel the day's warmth on your skin long after it's turned to night. And that's when it hits you: minutes pass like hours, you're totally relaxed, and everything feels right.

Mexico also has the nicest people of any country I've been to. When you travel, you have to rely on total strangers (cab drivers, desk staff, waiters, etc.) to make your vacation a good one. In Mexico, you WANT to rely on people. Everyone is friendly and easy-going. Not sure what to eat, see, or do? Just ask - you won't be led astray. You might even make a life-long friend.

That, of course, happened to me, but in a slightly unconventional sense. It was on our first trip to Mexico that I realized I wanted to marry Meghan, and spend my life with her. And we fell so in love with our tropical getaway, that Mexico quickly became our top choice for a destination wedding. With the "Who" and the "Where" figured out, the only question remaining was, "When?" (June 17th, in case you're wondering!)


About Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a Mexican paradise that lies along Banderas Bay, the second largest bay in the Western Hemisphere. It is located on the same latitude as Hawaii.

The downtown area has preserved a taste of old Mexico with its cobblestone streets, cathedrals, and quaint white-washed houses with red terra cotta tiled roofs. The surrounding region has many forests, rivers and waterfalls, and an average temperature of 80°F. The landmark for the area is the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe with its unique glass dome (you will be able to see the roof from our wedding venue).

The area offers a cultured grace with some the most talented artists, architects, and chefs in North America. Approximately 120 restaurants and entertainment facilities are available throughout the region - including many of 5 star quality. Art galleries dot the city and include the work of local legend Manuele Lupe.
